Pickering

Pickering’s core focus is high-density modular switching and simulation systems for PXI, PCI, LXI and USB applications.

Offering the deepest product portfolio (over 1,000 PXI modules alone), along with supporting cable and connector solutions, diagnostic test tools and software to streamline the development and deployment of high-performance electronic test and verification systems.

Pickering is continually expanding their range of switching and simulation products because when it comes to test, their customers not only care about high quality, they care about breadth of choice. Pickering’s philosophy has always been to offer the right amount of switching/simulation, with the required performance, at the right cost, no matter what the application may be.

PXI/PXIe, LXI, USB Switching

With over 1,000 switch modules available, Pickering can help you with your test and measurement requirements. Their PXI switch modules, available in PXI and PXIe formats, range from the highest density switching matrices (BRIC), RF and optical switching to fault/signal insertion modules. All of their modules will plug into any PXI compliant chassis or a Hybrid Slot in a PXIe chassis.

Pickering also manufactures a wide range of LXI (Ethernet controlled) switching solutions, including low-frequency matrices, multiplexers, RF & Microwave up to 40 GHz, and optical systems, as well as LXI & LXI/USB modular chassis.

Sensor Simulation

Pickering’s simulation modules are available in the industry standard PXI platform. Their products can be used to test and validate controllers that rely on sensor inputs for correct operation—such as thermocouple sensors, temperature sensing, and measuring angular rotation, to name a few.

Cable and Connector Solutions

Pickering provides a full range of supporting cables and connector solutions. Offering everything from simple mating connectors to complex cables assemblies and terminal blocks. Every accessory is designed to ensure you have a trouble-free experience connecting our products to your test system. Try their free online Cable Design Tool to graphically design your custom cable assembly, using either our built-in library of standard cable sets or create them from scratch.

Diagnostic Test Tools

Pickering’s diagnostic test tools provide a quick and simple way of finding relay failures within LXI, PCI and PXI switch systems: BIRST (Built-In-Relay-Self-Test) and eBirst. BIRST finds relay failures available on some of their LXI and PXI switch matrices. The eBIRST toolset consists of four different tools that support 200-pin LFH, 104-pin, 78-pin and 50-pin D-type connectors and a set of adaptors that allow connection to other connector types.

Software

Pickering provides driver packages for LXI and PXI products offering seamless installation and support of all popular programming languages such as C/C++, LabVIEW™, LabVIEW RT, .NET, VB, LabWindows™/CVI, MATLAB®, Python, ATEasy, TestStand™, Veristand™ and Switch Executive™ (via the IVI driver). And their signal routing software, Switch Path Manager, simplifies signal routing through switching systems and speeds up the development of switching system software. Switch Path Manager supports Pickering’s switching modules and the interconnection between them.

Fault Insertion Units – PXI Fault Insertion Insertion Switch Modules

Pickering’s range of PXI Fault Insertion Units (FIU), also known as Fault Injection switch products, are designed specifically for safety-critical applications where the response of a control system is required to be evaluated when sensor connections behave in unexpected ways.

These modules are scalable solutions that can be used to switch signals between simulations and real-life devices in a multitude of hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) simulation and test systems. The fault insertion unit can significantly simplify and accelerate the testing, diagnosis and integration work in HIL applications.

Pickering’s FIUs are available in a wide range of channel counts and fault bus configurations, with current handling capabilities from 0.3A to 40A—take a look at the categories below to find the configuration you need.

Sensor and Battery Simulators

As electronic devices get more intelligent, they require many sensors to provide data for decision-making and initiating the appropriate action. When it comes to New Product Introduction (NPI) and manufacturing test, it can be difficult to use the actual sensors used with the device. So, these inputs are better simulated in test. This makes the test system smaller, faster, and potentially more accurate.

Pickering offers an extensive range of PXI solutions for sensor simulation, including:

LXI Chassis

For applications requiring diverse switching functions but preferring an LXI interface, look no further than Pickering  LXI/USB modular chassis. These chassis are capable of hosting Pickering’s extensive range of 3U PXI switching and simulation modules in an LXI environment, allowing remote control over a gigabit Ethernet connection. Additionally, their LXI/USB Chassis support up to six PXI modules and can be controlled via USB or Ethernet.

Pickering’s LXI/USB modular chassis are available in 2, 4, 7 and 18-slot versions and support over 1,000 of our PXI modules. The PXI modules supported range from PXI general purpose relays, matrices, multiplexers and RF switches to special PXI switching functions such as fault/signal insertion. Also supported is a selection of simulation modules such as programmable resistors, digital I/O, power supplies, thermocouple simulators, function generators, battery simulators and attenuators. This gives you enormous flexibility to define a switching or T&M system to exactly match your needs.
