Platform Modules and Controllers

Platform modules and controllers integrate with modular hardware platforms that allow you to combine different types of modules in a custom system that leverages shared platform features.

NI offers three hardware platforms—CompactDAQ, CompactRIO, and PXI—though all platforms may not be represented in this category.

Expansion Module for CompactRIO

Expansion Module for CompactRIO

Expands the processor I/O from an NI controller to meet additional application requirements.

The Expansion Module for CompactRIO connects to the processor I/O, such as USB and Ethernet, of a controller to expand its functionality. This module works with CompactRIO Controllers, Industrial Controllers, CompactRIO Single-Board Controllers, and PXI Controllers to expand the capabilities of the system, such as adding additional storage for saving more data and increasing the number of USB or time-sensitive networking (TSN) Ethernet ports of the system. Additionally, the Expansion Module for CompactRIO features the same rugged shock and vibration ratings as other CompactRIO modules, and you can can mechanically connect it to a controller for integration using mounting accessories.

CompactDAQ Controller

Integrates a multi-core processor with modular I/O, standard peripheral connectivity, and display capabilities.

The CompactDAQ Controller is a rugged, reliable, high-performance embedded controller with industry-standard certifications. It is ideal for performing waveform acquisition and inline software analysis while logging data to onboard or removable SD memory. C Series modules deliver high-accuracy I/O with measurement-specific signal conditioning to connect to any sensor type. The controller also offers a wide array of standard connectivity and expansion options, such as USB, Ethernet, CAN/LIN, and RS232 serial. It runs either the NI Linux Real-Time OS or Windows Embedded Standard 7. You can customize and deploy your measurement application with support for multiple programming languages, including LabVIEW, which contains over 950 signal processing and analysis functions to accelerate development.

Industrial Controller

Industrial Controller

Offers high levels of processing power and connectivity for automated image processing, data acquisition, and control applications in extreme environments.

Industrial Controllers are high-performance, fanless controllers that provide connectivity for communication and synchronization to EtherCAT and Ethernet CompactRIO chassis, EtherCAT motion drives, GigE Vision and USB3 Vision cameras, and other automation equipment. Controllers also have onboard isolated, transistor‐transistor logic (TTL), and differential digital I/O. You can use LabVIEW system design software to create, debug, and deploy logic to both the onboard FPGA and the processor. LabVIEW contains over 950 signal processing, analysis, control, and mathematics functions to accelerate development.
