Platform Modules
Platform modules integrate with modular hardware platforms that allow you to combine different types of modules in a custom system that leverages shared platform features. NI offers three hardware platforms—CompactDAQ, CompactRIO, and PXI—though all platforms may not be represented in this category.
C Series Serial Interface Module
C Series Serial Interface Module
The C Series Serial Interface Module adds RS232 or RS485/RS422 serial ports to CompactRIO systems. The serial ports are accessed directly from the field-programmable gate array (FPGA) to offer you flexibility in communicating with serial devices. The module has individual buffers on every port that save FPGA space and simplify programming. The C Series Serial Interface Module supports standard start bit, stop bit, and handshaking settings. It uses an external power to provide maximum compatibility and reliability under all serial port conditions. You can choose from both enclosed and non-enclosed modules.

PXI GPIB Instrument Control Module
PXI GPIB Instrument Control Module
PXI GPIB Instrument Control Modules feature IEEE 488 controllers for PXI systems. You can choose an option that supports Gigabit Ethernet transfer speeds. PXI GPIB Instrument Control Modules include a license for the industry standard NI-488.2 driver software enabling reliable connections to third-party instruments with GPIB.

PXI Serial Interface Module
PXI Serial Interface Module
The PXI Serial Interface Module offers a number of options for connecting to serial hardware. You can choose from common serial protocols, such as RS232, RS422, and RS485. The PXI Serial Interface Module also offers various isolation, hyperthreading, and multiprocessor compatibility options as well as 4- and 2-wire transceiver modes for full- and half-duplex communication. NI serial interfaces also appear as standard COM ports for compatibility with programs that use serial communications.

PXI Ethernet Interface Module
PXI Ethernet Interface Module
The PXI Ethernet Interface Module equips PXI systems with high-bandwidth Ethernet-based connectivity with up to 40 Gb/s data rates per port. Featuring compatibility with industry-standard network and automatic cable polarity detection, this module is ideal for high-performance data transfer and vision applications on the PXI platform. Additionally, the PXI Ethernet Interface Module has independent bandwidth to support up to four GigE Vision cameras without PoE.

Stand Alone or Computer Based Devices
Stand-alone or computer-based devices either integrate with standard desktop and laptop computers or allow you to use them without the need for other modular hardware.
GPIB Instrument Control Device
GPIB Instrument Control Device
GPIB Instrument Control Devices offer IEEE 488 controllers that are compatible with ExpressCard, PMC, PCMCIA, PCIe, PCI, and USB slots as well as Ethernet, RS485, RS422, and RS232 ports. Some models can control multiple GPIB devices, and others offer sustained data transfer rates and no microprocessor interruption in data transfers. GPIB Instrument Control Devices include a license for the NI-488.2 driver software, providing maximum reliability for connecting to third-party instruments via GPIB. The devices are completely IEEE 488.2 compatible, have industry-standard transfer rates, and offer easy system configuration through NI software.

Serial Interface Device
Serial Interface Device
The Serial Interface Device offers a number of options for connecting to serial hardware. You can choose from Ethernet, USB, PCI, PCIe, or ExpressCard interfaces to add up to 16 serial ports to your system. You can choose from common serial protocols, such as RS232, RS422, and RS485. The Serial Interface Device also offers various isolation, hyperthreading, and multiprocessor compatibility options. Some models also support 4- and 2-wire transceiver modes for full- and half-duplex communication. NI serial interfaces also appear as standard COM ports for compatibility with programs that use serial communications.
